Christopher D. Ekman is a 1977 graduate of the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University and a 1982 graduate of Vermont Law School where he received a Masters in Environmental Law in addition to his law degree. In 1985, Mr. Ekman joined Mr. Heilmann after working as a prosecutor.  

For the past 30 years, Mr. Ekman’s practice has focused on civil litigation, with a primary emphasis on professional liability defense cases, and on business transactions. He is admitted to all state and federal courts in the State of Vermont and to the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.  In 2006, Mr. Ekman completed the Mediation Workshop at the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School and since then has devoted a significant portion of his practice to mediation and arbitration. The more than 75 mediations which he has conducted have involved issues concerning partnership, contract and business disputes, construction claims, fire losses, professional negligence claims and property disputes, among others.

In addition, Mr. Ekman volunteers as a Small Claims Acting Judge in the Chittenden and Franklin Units of the Vermont Superior Court, and he lectures on construction law and real estate brokerage matters. Having grown up in a bilingual family, he speaks French fluently.
